Presidential Visit to Drumalis

We were delighted to welcome President Mary McAleese to the centre on Thursday 10th June at 2:30 pm.

President McAleese is no stranger to Drumalis - from her school days at St. Dominic's on, the President has been involved in events here, both as a participant and as a lecturer.  The visit provided a wonderful opportunity for her to revisit old haunts and to see the transformation brought about by the construction of the beautifully appointed new conference and residential block, not to mention the expansion of the influence and work of Drumalis as evidenced by the diverse range of individuals and group representatives who are gathering for the occasion.

President McAleese's visit marked 80 years of retreat ministry by the Sisters of the Cross and Passion and their fellow workers.  This ministry, initially to women, has expanded to include men and women, people of all denominations and none and those from this country and abroad. The centre's ethos is one of inclusivity, compassion and respect for all creation. Its work focuses therefore on the promotion of spirituality, community relations and care for the earth.Drumalis aspires to offering a place where all may feel welcome, an oasis on the journey of life. Marking our 80th anniversary gives us an opportunity to remember those who have gone before us and to acknowledge their enduring contribution.
